ABOUT US

Mount Bethel Baptist Church was established in 1905 in a store on Chestnut Street under the leadership of Reverend A.J. Hubbard, our first pastor.  We were assisted by Calvary Baptist Church of Paterson, New Jersey, which is now known as our mother church.

Welcome to Mount Bethel Baptist Church, where our rich history and unwavering commitment to serving the Lord have shaped us into a vibrant and dedicated community.

Our journey began in July 1976 when we called upon Rev. Dr. Thomas Johnson to lead us as our tenth pastor. His acceptance of the call in September 1976 marked the beginning of a remarkable tenure that lasted for 40 impactful years. On May 29, 1977, Rev. Dr. Thomas Johnson was officially installed as our beloved pastor, shepherding our congregation with unwavering devotion until he was called home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2018.

Under Rev. Dr. Thomas Johnson's guidance, our church flourished. Today, we proudly offer a range of transformative ministries and services. Our Bible Studies provide in-depth exploration of God's Word, while our vibrant Vacation Bible School nurtures young hearts and minds. Our Intercessory Prayer Service connects us with the power of prayer, and our Revival Services ignite a spiritual fervor within our congregation.

Rev. Dr. Thomas Johnson's visionary leadership also birthed the Youth Department, Church Choirs, the Men's Fellowship Group, and even a seed church in Uitenhage, South Africa, bearing Mount Bethel's name. Additionally, our facilities have been enhanced to ensure the comfort and convenience of our members, including the addition of a Fellowship Hall and extra classrooms.

In September 2008, we joyfully stepped into our new expanded sanctuary, designed to accommodate the growing spiritual needs of our congregation. Yet, amidst all the growth and change, we hold dear to our historical roots. The bell that proudly hangs in our tower once served in the village firehouse. Now, its resounding tones echo the timeless invitation, "Whosoever will may come."

Looking ahead, Mount Bethel Baptist Church is resolute in our commitment to further expand our Bible Studies, Men's Fellowship, Community Outreach, and Youth Programs. The future is filled with promises and possibilities, and we eagerly embrace the path that lies ahead. We stand proud of the foundation laid by those who came before us, knowing that their faith and efforts have borne fruit.

As we journey forward, we face the future with unwavering confidence in the great work of serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
